Linda July 19 Grand Canyon north rim

Long run training 7 miles done by 10am.

When I got back I told the girls to go ride their bikes. Didn't give any guidelines; just go ride your bikes. Wanted to get them out of my way while I showered and changed.

A few minutes later, John comes in with laundry and asks where girls are. I told him so he goes to look for them as we need to leave in twenty minutes. I get ready, not thinking about it too much more but then it occurs to me. We are literally out in the middle of nowhere.  The nearest town or civilization of ANY kind is at least an hour drive away.  There are trails all over the place. What if they ride down one and then another and then another and get turned around and get lost? Just a few days ago we heard in the radio a lady had gotten lost for a few days in red rock canyon near Las Vegas. That could happen. So I start panicking. Both John and I are out looking by that point. John calls the campground management and they were about to call the forestry service when the girls come riding in. I fell apart. I haven't been that scared in a long time.

John is now late for his mule ride into the canyon so while we are ranting and raving at the girls we are speeding along trying to get to the visitors center so he doesn't miss it.

Can you say stressful?

He makes the apt and the rest of the day was wonderful. The girls and I had lunch at the beautiful Grand Canyon lodge.  We then spent the rest of the day hiking around the north rim.

When John returns we had drinks on the balcony then dinner at the lodge.

An hour drive back to Kaibob Campground in Jacob Lake and bed around 11:30pm.
